Why Specialized Tools?
In the latter part of the last century, with well designs becoming more and more ambitious, several major operators experienced significant deterioration in the performance of their well completions, particularly in subsea wells. The result was that the percentage NPT (Non Productive Time) in the completions phase was sometimes two to three greater than in the drilling phase. In the worst cases, so called “train wrecks” caused substantial lost time and loss of production from either damage to the reservoir or simply time to recomplete.
These operators conclude that these severe situations could have been avoided had the wells been properly cleaned prior to insertion of the completion.
Thus began an industry-wide study of best practices in wellbore clean-up and displacement techniques. Central in this was the use of fit-for-purpose and specialty engineered wellbore clean-up tools and methodologies.
Prominent among the services companies providing this has been M-I SWACO Specialized Tools.
