Circulating Tools

Run as part of the main wellbore clean-up as well as on upper well clean-up runs, these tools provide alternative flowpaths to permit faster flowrates at critical points in the well. The pressure relief realized when the tools are opened means that fluid flow can be boosted in order that debris and swarf can be circulated out of the wellbore.

Some tools are used in the drilling application (eg Centurion Circulating Valve) while others are weight-set (MFCT) and used in the WBCU situation. Others still are ball-drop valves which have sliding sleeves moving to open and close their circulating ports (SABS, DABS, PBS).

Name Function/Application
CENTURION Circulating Valve (CCV) The advanced CENTURION* Circulating Valve (CCV) performs many functions, including spotting Lost-Circulation Material (LCM) pills, boosting annular flow velocities, pulling dry pipe and flow-splitting during drilling.
Clutch Type Multi-Function Circulating Tool (MFCTC) The MFCT* tool is particularly suited to wells with small liner diameters where well cleanups are performed prior to running completions or test strings.
Clutch-Type Heavy-Duty Multi-Function Circulating Tool (MFCTHD) The Clutch-Type, Heavy-Duty Multi-Function Circulating Tool (MFCT*) unit is a valuable option when well cleanout is required in deeper, deviated wells and/or when it is necessary to start and stop the cleanout operation at several places in the wellbore.
Dual-Action Bypass Sub (DABS) The DABS* (Dual-Action Bypass Sub) tool is designed to run in the cleanup string when it is desirable to jet the riser and Blowout Preventer (BOP) while Running In Hole (RIH)and/or when Pulling Out Of Hole (POOH).
Multi-Action Circulating Valve II (MACV) The Multi-Action Circulating Valve II (MACV II) allows communication of fluid from the workstring to the casing annulus when increased annular velocities are necessary to enhance wellbore cleaning.
Ported Bypass Sub The Ported Bypass Sub is normally run above the WELL PATROLLER* tool to provide an additional means of equalizing pressure and fluid flow around the tool, should it fill with debris while pulling out of hole.
Single-Action Bypass Sub (SABS) The SABS unit is used to boost the flow velocity in a casing string above a liner.
Standard-Type MFCT-C The Standard-Type MFCT-C device has been developed for use in wells when high circulation rates are required at various times to displace debris or fluid of the hole.
