RECLAIM Technology
The M-I SWACO RECLAIM* technology is a chemically enhanced solids removal process, capable of eliminating the majority of the fine solids from oil- or synthetic-base fluids. These fine drilled solids, also called Low-Gravity Solids (LGS), build up in a mud system during the drilling process because conventional solids-control equipment (SCE) cannot remove them. LGS buildup hinders efficient drilling in several ways: pipe sticking, increased torque, decreased ROP, other high-viscosity-mud issues and more. SCE equipment alone typically removes LGS particles greater than 5 to 7 microns, while particles smaller than 5 to 7 microns remain in the mud system to cause problems.
The only conventional treatment is to dilute the mud system to reduce the level of fine solids, or to build new mud. These are not feasible solutions in many applications because dilution increases disposal costs, while building new mud directly increases fluids costs.
