500A CENTRIFUGE

The M-I SWACO 500A CENTRIFUGE* has a 18.58”-internal diameter x 70.86”-long (472-mm x 1,800-mm) stainless steel bowl and conveyor assembly. The infinitely adjustable main drive bowl is hydraulic driven by a 60-horsepower, explosion- proof, electric motor and controlled by a variable hydraulic drive system. This type of controller allows low-amperage startups and assures infinite variable speed adjustment to the rotation of the bowl. This feature eliminates downtime for sheave change-outs common to other centrifuges available today. The main bowl speed is infinitely adjustable from 1,200-rpm to 3,100-rpm with a variable hydraulic drive. The differential or back drive is driven by a 15-horsepower, explosion-proof, electric motor and controlled by a variable hydraulic drive system. The differential speed of the conveyor can be adjusted from +1 to a maximum of +65 rpm.

The 500A CENTRIFUGE consists of a contour bowl assembly that includes hardfacing protection in the feed zone, tungsten carbide discharge ports and hardfaced conveyor flights. A two-step planetary 5.1-knm gearbox with a 60:1 ratio drives the centrifuge. Additional overload protection is provided with a re-settable mechanical clutch and safety shutdown device.

The drive system is monitored by a Programmed Logic Controller (PLC), which constantly adjusts and maintains the correct separation process of the effluent liquid and solids. This ensures liquid/solids separation, less pack off of solids, cleaner effluents, reduced personnel, and automatic adjustment for varied drilling conditions. The control box, which houses all of the centrifuge’s control functions and gauges, is positioned on the front of the centrifuge skid.

The 500A CENTRIFUGE feed pump is a progressive cavity pump driven by an infinitely adjustable mechanical gearbox. The pump is rated at a maximum pump rate of approximately 150 gpm.
