M-I SWACO understands that managing and treating oil-contaminated solids, drilling muds and cuttings are pressing issues in oilfield exploration and development. Operational programs are increasing efforts to accommodate and process produced waste streams and to recover valuable base oils. Desorption technologies have proven to be a reliable method of reducing hydrocarbon contamination in drilling solids.

One way M-I SWACO reduces the amount of waste produced and reclaims valuable resources is by reusing base oils in active mud systems.

M-I SWACO is also developing other alternatives for safe solids disposal. After appropriate treatment, discharge material can often be used as a fundamental building material; for example, as a base material in the construction of roads or building blocks.
