M-I SWACO introduces Meerkat PT* dual-motion shaker at OTC

HOUSTON (May 5, 2008) – M-I SWACO unveiled its patented Meerkat PT* dual-motion shale shaker at the 2008 Offshore Technology Conference. The unit is ideally suited for drilling rigs and separation operations offshore or in any application where space is at a premium and performance requirements are high.

The novel solids-control technology, which can be customized to meet tight-space requirements and high-performance criteria, is engineered to adapt to changing drilling rates and conditions throughout the well construction process. In linear motion, the Meerkat PT is designed to manage the high volume of drill cuttings generated in surface hole sections. The unit can be changed on the fly to balanced elliptical motion for longer cuttings-retention as the well progresses.

Owing to its high throughput capacity, the shaker easily can handle the cuttings load produced by high rates of penetration (ROP), thereby reducing rig time. When in balanced elliptical motion, the Meerkat PT also recovers significant volumes of useable drilling fluid, while reducing disposal requirements by producing drier cuttings that require less treatment.

M-I SWACO, which is based in Houston, TX and jointly owned 60% by Smith International, Inc. (NYSE, PSE:Sii) and 40% by Schlumberger Limited (NYSE:SLB), is a leading provider of a wide range of products and engineering services designed to deliver Drilling Solutions, Environmental Solutions, Wellbore Productivity and Production Technologies. The company is strategically located in more than 70 countries.
